Bulls & Oxen Protection

Bulls and Oxen

Many devotees have written to Mother Cow and asked her about our program for protecting bulls and oxen.

Yes, we do protect the bulls and oxen as much as we protect the cows, but at the present time we have limited facilities such as land, pasture, and barn space to keep more than two bull calves.

So what have we done with the bulls born in our goshala over the past years? This is a big question because everyone knows that when the bulls go out the gate that they are almost certain to be sent to the slaughter house sooner or later. If you are not protecting the bulls, the father of society, then what is the meaning to a cow protection project? This is a legitimate question!

We are indeed very fortunate at Mother Cow Goshala, possibly more so than some other devotee goshalas, because we have a Big Brother Goshala in Mysore called Pinjapol that is operated by the Jain community. They have vast lands and monetary resources for both cow and bull protection. We have an arrangement with Pinjapol and after our bulls are one year old they are transferred to that goshala where it is guaranteed that they will be protected for life.

When we are able to increase our lands then Mother Cow Goshala will be able to keep all her bulls, but in the meantime the Pinjapol people are protecting Krishna's bulls for us and we feel that this is Krishna's arrangement for the present.

We have several oxen related programs under development. One is the gober gas digester that will be set up near to the ashram kitchen and an oxen will be engaged three times a day pulling a cart load of gober from the barn to the digester. We are also getting another ox-cart that will be used for sankirtan in the villages and also to take children and visitors for rides around our land.

Within a couple of months we feel that our bull and oxen program will have improved and by the grace of Krishna we will be able to continue improving our program for the satisfaction of Govinda, the Supreme Protector of Cows.

If you have any questions or suggestions of how we can better our cow protection program please don't hesitate to contact Mother Cow. Moooooooo!
