"In
an age where thousands and thousands of wild and
domestic species are going in to the oblivion
every year, saving the Vechur, the smallest cow
in the world, from the brink of extinction, by
a conservation programme in the Kerala Agricultural
University, was a saga in conservation. A group
of motivated conservationists were instrumental
in the initiation of the Project, and it was a
model of co-operation among academic and voluntary
organisations in conservation efforts. The Vechur
Conservation Association which was active from
the beginning has now been registered as a public
trust called the Vechur Conservation Trust, dedicated
to the cause of biodiversity conservation."

primary concern is to present alternatives to
agricultural practices that support and depend
upon the meat industry and industrialized, petroleum
powered machinery. To this end, ISCOWP trains
oxen (male cows or steers) to replace farm machinery
and thereby show an alternative to their slaughter.
The tenets of cow protection and ox-power are
universal and nonsectarian, available to all regardless
of race, creed, or nationality."
Care
For Cows in Vrndavan
Care for Cows in Vrindavan is
the branch of Vrindavan Food for Life that provides
maintenance for abandoned cows, bulls, retired
oxen, and orphaned calves. They provide stray
cows with hay, flour, fresh grass, medical attention
and a place for them to recuperate from injuries.
They are volunteer workers who offer their talents
and resources for tending to the hundreds of neglected
cows living in the streets of Vrindavan.

Farms is a mixed, organic farming system in which
farm animals are protected for life, offering
food without cruelty for the ethical consumer.
Protection Farms offer to the consumer a diversified
range of organic goods. Protection Farms aims
to show that protecting farm animals is a viable
alternative to their present mass slaughter.
